The 29 recruits under the fast track Business Leadership Program at Essar including me received a special experience yesterday when the chairman of the Essar Group, the legendary Shashi Ruia came down to be with us and interact with us for an hour and a half !!Most of us being from premier B-schools, have had the experience of meeting corporate honchos. So none of us was overawed by his presence. That helped us to keep our sanity and interact in the manner we normally interact. I remember seeing Vishwanathan Anand for the first time in Bandra many years ago and i was overawed & literally shaking with excitement for 2 hours!! So much so that i couldn't even click photos properly ! Here though it was sane ! Each of us had a introduction session and Shashiji asked each one of us questions and preferences. We also got a chance to ask strategic questions to him, the answers which can be given holistically only by him. All in all a nice experience.
I believe in the entrepreneurial way of things and i see here an opportunity to create opportunities for new businesses in whatever role i am assigned. It is a wide value chain and there are innumerable points of impact. Love the company and the job. Not been assigned to a particular department yet. So no idea of who my boss might be. I hope he/she starts throwing huge business and entrepreneurial challenges asap at me.
